JIM FISCUS is a visual storyteller. His career began with conceptual advertising portraiture, working with clients such as Samsung, Showtime, Hartford and Bushmills to just name a few. He went on to pioneer a dynamic cinematic style with an ability to relay a story in a single frame – whether a hint of a concept or a series that illustrates multiple aspects. With his innate understanding of photography and endless imagination, he often shoots in layers, allowing for multiple dimensions and perspectives and image uses to abound.

He is known for his focused, collaborative approach to projects and willingness to evolve. “With each shoot, I have an organized start point and clear plan; within this structure, I allow for things to shift and unfold in front of me without interruption, allowing the subject matter to take me to a different place creatively, a place that supports the story being told.” Because of this, Fiscus delivers well beyond what the creative dictates, with both talent and clients alike responding to the energy he and his team create on set.

Whip smart, quietly funny and loyal as hell, Fiscus has an international support team – friends, really – capable of handling all aspects of production, including post.

When not on the road, he lives with his best friend and three kids, and stays continually inspired by travel, life in nature, and time on his BMW 1200GS. He and his five-year-old daughter recently adopted two guinea pigs, Spunky and Vinegar.

Richard’s love for photography is deeply rooted in his childhood. Although his father worked as a mining engineer in Eschweiler, Germany, he also created images of Europe’s most beautiful places, from the Italian Dolomites and Austrian Alps to the Italian Mediterranean coast.

The father’s passion became the son’s dream. At age 17, Richard decided the best way to become a professional photographer would be to move overseas and get a college education in America. He immigrated first to Huntington, West Virginia, where he attended his senior year of high school; after graduation, he moved to Florida and attended the Photography Institute at Daytona State College.

After college, Richard continued his education and further developed his craft with several acclaimed Florida-based photographers. He immersed himself in architectural, hospitality and marine photography and went on to form his own business in 2002. He operated Richard Steinberger Photography in Door County, Wisconsin, and Denver, Colorado, before relocating to Beaufort, South Carolina, in 2020.

In the last two decades, Richard has become one of the world’s top marine photographers. His clients include some of the most most iconic brands in recreational boating, including Sea Ray, Boston Whaler and Chris-Craft. He also has worked with prominent clients in architectural design, travel/tourism and hospitality.

When not working on national and international commercial projects, Richard spends his time working on film productions, most notably “Waniyetu Wowapi (Winter Count).” This documentary film — commissioned by the nonprofit Cheyenne River Youth Project on the South Dakota’s Cheyenne River Sioux Reservation — won a Social Impact Award at the 2022 Latino & Native American Film Festival in Stamford, Connecticut.

Richard lives in Beaufort with his wife, Heather, daughter, Johanna, and Great Pyrenees, Kaya. When not he’s busy telling stories, he can be found on his classic motor launch Mach Buffett, exploring the Lowcountry’s tidal rivers, salt marshes and sandbars.

These days, I am working across the country as a conservation photographer. I’m focused on “Bio Blitzes” — shooting multiple species in such a way that viewers get a close-up, intimate look and are able to see all the beautiful detail and color that these species possess. As people’s perceptions change, the species will take on new life in their minds. What’s more, they will be seen as assets and vital parts of their world.

Each Bio Blitz is a short, intense team effort dedicated to discovering as many different life forms as possible in one location. It encompasses all I wish to communicate to my audience about conservation and biodiversity, and it’s a wonderful way to communicate with students and adults about science in general. I’ve learned that Bio Blitzes are powerful tools for environmental education, conservation, and community engagement, and they represent experiential learning at its best.

To date, I have shot over 140 Bio Blitzes from Maine to California. I’ve noticed that when people of all ages and professions gather to take a closer look at their local wildlife, a tangible excitement builds in the air.

I have worked with National Geographic on their Bio Blitzes at locations such as Saguaro National Park, Rocky Mountain National Park, Jean Lafitte National Historical Park and Preserve, Golden Gate National Park, and The National Mall in Washington D.C. The public has been deeply engaged in these events, and more than 1,000 kids attended each one!

I also have worked with number of New England-based organizations on their All- Taxa Biodiversity Inventory (ATBI) projects in Acadia National Park, the Adirondacks, and the Boston Harbor Islands, where I worked on a project developed by E.O. Wilson. This acclaimed biologist and author conducted pioneering work on biodiversity, insects, and human nature, and he won two Pulitzer Prizes along the way.

Images move people. That’s why good photographic coverage is key not only in documenting what’s out there, big and small, but also in inspiring people to protect it.
