ASMP NC chatted with UNC Chapel Hill’s ARTS 515 Advanced Photography class. We had a great session, discussing real, detailed areas, and gave a complete plan to start developing your first clients.

Our topics were based on submissions from the students and included:

The Value of Assisting & Second-Shooting
Ken Huth gave “1 Rule, 1 Case Study & 2 Warnings: getting that first work— tips from a pro
Jebb Graff expertly covered Professional Practices in Starting Your Photo Business, which including a surprising one that really resonated with many attendees
During the Q&A, we covered handling tricky situations with clients & getting noticed by a pro to assist for them (or be mentored by them)

Join us for a special education event with students at the UNC Hussman School of Journalism and Media

This is short notice, but we have the opportunity to not only hang out with fellow photogs in Chapel Hill, but also to serve the students at UNC’s Journalism program with a mini photo workshop.

We invite you to come learn, give input from your experience, or just hang out with us and have fun, as we live out this part of our mission…

We’ll be at the school (info below) for the workshop talk, and then head out to Linda’s Bar and Grill after for social time.
Feel free to come to either part of the eve, or both.

ASMP NC president Justin Kase Condor will chat about how he landed his first big commercial gig, and there will be other topics of interest to the ’emerging pro’ photographer.

Friday 10/18/19 6:30-8:30pm in Durham, NC at Hi-Wire Brewing.

No agenda, no pitch to join ASMP, just a nice eve out with folks who’ll enjoy talking tech, art, imaging, and business. It’s a great chance to make connections in the local photo community.

ASMPNC Announces Newly-Seated Board of Directors

ASMP is pleased to announce the newly-seated North Carolina Chapter Board of Directors.

The 2019/2021 Board of Directors include:

Veasey Conway

Aaron Cress

Jebb Graff

Ken Huth

Justin Kase Conder

Sonia Katchian

In a change from the past, in lieu of “electing” the board, we have chosen to seat all of those who declared themselves as board candidates for a two-year term. With that change, there can be a greater sharing of duties and “more hands on deck” to assist with chapter administration, member recruitment, event planning and promotion.

ASMPNC Board officers will be elected at the next chapter board meeting to be scheduled shortly, with more chapter news coming to you directly from the NC Board of Directors.

ASMP North Carolina – New Website

Welcome to ASMP North Carolina!

Last year, ASMP began the process of transitioning its website from an outdated Drupal platform to a new platform based on WordPress. These changes offer huge improvements in usability, maintainability, SEO, and appearance. The national website is currently up and running. Individual chapter sites are just beginning to make the transition. If you are reading this, you are seeing the new ASMP North Carolina website.

Over the next few months, the ASMP North Carolina site will transition to its new home at https://www.asmp.org/nc. This site will benefit from a deeper integration with the national site and, because it is based on the more user-friendly WordPress platform, we hope it will be easier to maintain.
