Here you will find a template to guide you in your letter writing, an example letter from Past-Chair Jenna Close (who testified before Congress on the The Case Act in September), and some talking points should you wish to ask your family and friends to contact the Senator as well.

This is a generational change in the copyright law which will create a Federal Small Claim courts that does not require either lawyer or even the appearance of the litigants to get a judgement. It makes a simple, effective and enforceable method of assuring artist can enforce their right to own what they create. It has had bi-partisan support but had been recently stalled in committee by the objections from large internet entities like Google and Adobe. The act was being assaulted on on one side by these types of entities and on the other side by internet freedom types who believe there should be no copyright ever for anything.

Since 1994, ASMP has continued to work for photographers’ interests.

There are lots of reasons to join the America Society of Media Photographers  (ASMP). Some are direct and put cash in your pocket now; some are indirect and protect your livelihood in the years to come.

There are regular webinars generated by ASMP National on topics that help educated members on new trends, opportunities, or issues affecting professional photographers.

The organization also hosts blogs and fourteen forums  ranging from: Architecture, Food, Fine Art, Corporate, Commercial, Weddings, Retail, Assistants and Emerging Photographers, Photojournalism to Video, Legal, and Drones. These off a way for members to interact with other likeminded photographers to solve problems and share ideas.

Members have free or discounted participation in local events where we need to charge an entry fee.

Our industry is changing very rapidly and so is our organization, The American Society of Media Photographers.  The national organization has a new leader in, Tom Kennedy, who has a broad range of experience in a number of different media related fields and has laid out a vision for the future . One of his initiatives has been to revamp the organization’s presence on the web with a new National ASMP Website. As a result our local chapter also now has a new website  https://www.asmp.org/kcma/ that piggybacks on the National Site so this one destination can now deliver local news and national stories on the one site.  This also means a change in our, URL but for a while the old URL will automatically forward you to the new site.  We also have a new a new acronym, KCMA , chapter email kansascityma@asmp.org and branding.
