ASMP Chicago/Midwest is working with Columbia College’s internship program for the fall semester. This is an ongoing program for students to pair with a professional mentor and gain work experience and class credit. Photographers and photo professionals are welcome to apply as a mentor and create an internship job listing that will go live to students before the fall semester starts. This will allow students to apply, get hired, and start the internship close to the first week of September. The program requires a minimum of 75 hours, which can be divided on a regular weekly basis or if you have a large project in a shorter time frame it may be possible to find an intern whose schedule aligns.

Please look over the document that outlines the program and get back to us before August 11 if you would like to participate. This will allow enough time to work with the internship coordinator, post a job listing, and be matched with an intern at the beginning of the semester.

All types of photographers and photo related professionals who can mentor a student are welcome to apply. Here’s the overview, email us if you would like to participate and we will connect you with the coordinator about feasibility. Email asmpchicagomidwest@gmail.com to participate.

One of the rules is that the student may not come to the photographer’s home, they must meet at a studio, job site, or other public location. The coordinator said they would consider a remote internship on a case by case basis, so if you are outside of Chicago and want to work with a student intern on a remote basis you may apply.

ASMP Midwest hosted a virtual online DAM workshop series beginning in 2025 which is available via recordings.

DAM stands for Digital Asset Management. By using a DAM system, photographers can easily upload, store, search, share, protect, and track digital assets such as images, videos, audio files, and documents.

As your digital assets grow, so does the need to organize, archive, and backup your files. The average photographer may store hundreds of thousands of media files throughout one’s career, even more files if also producing video or audio.

Do you have a growing number of hard drives you use to store and access your digital media? Are you concerned about losing data from an external hard drive malfunctioning or from media getting lost in the cloud?

This virtual ASMP/Midwest DAM series will address the pain points individual photographers and media producers face as their digital media assets evolve.  If you want to learn how to organize, store, and easily access your growing bank of media files, then this workshop is for you.
